As previously reported, the Communications and Information Ministry has issued a regulation which requires all prepaid SIM card users to register their phone number with a valid national identification card (KTP) and family card (KK). The registration period starts from October 31 and closes on February 28, 2018.
Failure to do so by the end of the registration deadline would cause temporary suspension of services for the mobile phone number. Here’s a quick guide on how to register your phone number:
For Indonesian Citizens:
Smartphone users with a new prepaid card can text: (KTP number)#(KK number)# to 4444. If you have an existing prepaid SIM card but have not registered your ID, you can text ULANG#(KTP number)#(KK number)# to 4444.
For Foreigners:
According to a report by Tribun Jogja, foreigners can send a similar text containing their passport number and temporary stay permit (KITAS) or permanent stay permit (KITAP) number to 4444.
Alternatively, prepaid SIM card holders can also register via their operators’ websites.
It must also be noted that there is a maximum of three phone numbers that can be registered by a single person. Those who require additional phone numbers may apply for them at an outlet of their respective operator.
After Feb. 28, 2018, new prepaid SIM cards will not be able to be activated without registration at the time of purchase, while existing phone numbers an additional 15 days to register. Failure to register beyond the 15 additional days will result in service suspension.
