Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, Djoko Sasono, has responded to Indonesia’s increasing airfares.

Djoko said the ministry is set to have a meeting with flight operators to set a new policy on flight tickets.

“The maximum airfare was decided in 2016 and has not been changed. We will have a much-needed discussion about the new policy,” Djoko explained. The meeting will be held this week.

Djoko added that the ministry has yet to set a deadline for the new regulations to come into place. However, he assured the public that the government continues to ensure the safety of all flights in Indonesia.

Earlier on Monday, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that he had prepared several strategies to lower the flight tariffs as the Eid al-Fitr holiday nears. This will be discussed with each airline company within the next two days.
