Jambi Police Marijuana Raid Nabs 3

The Jambi Operational Police of Narcotics Unit have arrested three suspected drug traffickers in a raid Sunday, May 14, in the latest crackdown on narcotic use across the country.

The suspects — Hamdan Ali Imron Gultom, Indra Dwinata and Ari Heriyanto — were nabbed following a community report to police made in Widuri, an area notorious for drug abuse.

Investigators searched the area and entered a house allegedly owned by a known marijuana dealer.

Hamdan was apprehended during the raid, Acting Head Police Spokesman for Jambi Sub-District Police Brigadier Alamsyah Amir said.

After searching his person, police found a package of marijuana in his pants pocket as well as six suspicious packets stashed in his jacket pocket. Investigators also recovered four one litre mineral water bottles containing large packages of dried marijuana leaves stashed in his room in an effort to hide the drugs from possible searches.

During interrogations, Hamdan said he had been purchasing the drugs from Antok, who acts as an intermediary of Indra. Police then arrested the other two suspects. Investigations are continuing.

The suspects are set to be charged under either Article 111 Paragraph 1 or Article 114 Paragraph 1 of the 2009 law on narcotics.

Article 111 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics covers the production of drugs and carries a sentence of up to 12 years imprisonment. Article 114 covers the sale of drugs and carries a 20 year sentence.
