During a visit to the Manggarai sluice gate, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the Ciliwung River has passed through its most critical point.

He added that receding water levels have also been observed at Katulampa Dam in Bogor.

“The peak water level at Manggarai sluice gate at 11 a.m. was 890 cm at alert level II. That figure persisted until 4 p.m and afterwards, water slowly receded. This means we have already passed the Ciliwung’s critical point,” confirmed Anies.

The governor stated that he has ordered city administrators to guard the area, since the flood in the Ciliwung river was caused by the different rivers within its vicinity. Waters from Bogor have been known to deluge certain areas of Jakarta. In the south, east and northern Jakarta, waters have been known to submerge areas up to a depth of 2.5 to 3 metres.
