The Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Issues, Wiranto, has announced that the internet curbs in Papua and West Papua, which was enacted via bandwidth throttling, has officially been revoked.
“I received reports from the National Police Chief, intelligence (BIN), suggesting that conditions there have improved. As of 5th September, the internet blocking has been revoked,” said Wiranto.
The minister declared that the situation in the two provinces are safe. However, access could be curbed again should the situation deteriorate. “We hope it does not worsen again,” Wiranto added.
Access to the internet in Papua has been restricted since 21st August 2019 in an attempt to suppress the spread of fake information.
