Police Investigating Failed Bomb Attack in Kartasura, Central Java

A failed bombing attack which took place on Monday morning in Kartasura, is currently being investigated by the police.

The failed attack, which targeted a security post in Tugu Tani, injured the suspected bomber. The Densus 88 anti-terror squad have searched the home of the 22-year old suspect in Wirogunan village, Sukoharjo regency, early on Tuesday.

Village head Marjono said that he had been instructed to accompany the police as they collected evidence from the suspect’s house, among which was sulfur, wires, a cellphone, a switch, and aluminum foil. Forensic investigators have also arrived at the bombing scene at 7 am today. The affected security post is located on a street connecting three cities – Yogyakarta, Surakarta and Semarang – has also been affected by traffic.

According to various reports, the suicide bomber received severe injuries to his legs and hands. He had been taken to two nearby hospitals before being treated by the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Semarang. National police spokesman Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo stated that investigators are working to ascertain the motive behind the failed bombing, and whether or not the attack is affiliated with a certain terror group. No casualties have been reported so far in the attack.
