Roughaya Abeidi has been arrested by police for alleged theft. The Mauritanian, 31, drained a credit card that was owned by an English student, in a spree in a shop in Bali.
The crime occured on Monday 21st OctobeNovember. At that time, the victim checked in at a hotel in Seminyak and put down her bag containing her purse and many bank cards.
“When the victim went out with her friends, her father called and queried the big transaction on her credit card 13 times, with total value of the transactions reaching GB£22,765.42 or Rp414,222,970,” Iptu I Putu Ika Prabawa, of Kuta Police, said.
After receiving the information, then victim checked her bag and found that she had lost her credit card along with her driving license. Shortly after, she reported the incident to the local police.
“With the printed record of bank transactions given by the victim, Kuta Police investigated the transaction location in Yulia Jewellery Mall Bali Galeria (MBG). In the shop, a witness said that there were two women; a foreigner and a local. The information was corroborated by CCTV recordings,” Ika explain.
“In our first interrogation, the woman admitted her actions, that she had made some transactions. According to her, this is the first time she had committed theft and had found the card on the road,” he added.
From Abeidi’s possession, police secured some gold, a pair of shoes, an English driving license, and transaction records from the shops in question.
