Six people have been killed and over two hundred have been injured due to the rioting and clashes which took place in Central Jakarta and Tanah Abang area.
Fahrul W. Arbi, director of Budi Kemuliaan hospital revealed that one person had died after being shot during the rioting which took place in Tanah Abang area. The victim, who is identified as Farhan Syafero died Wednesday morning.
“When he arrived, the victim was still alive. We had tried to revive him but sadly he could not be saved. We contacted the family and sent the victim’s body to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital,” Fahrul added.
Yesterday, the General Elections Commission (KPU) has declared Joko Widodo as the winner of the 2019 presidential election. His rival Prabowo Subianto has initially thrown allegations of massive fraud and cheating at Jokowi’s camp, hinting at ‘people power’ movement.
Last night, a group of people had reportedly forced to enter the Election Supervisory Board office or Bawaslu at around 11 p.m. which further instigated the rioting at Brimob dormitory (Police Mobile Brigade) building in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. This morning, the mobs attempted to set the building on fire, destroying at least 11 cars. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far at the Brimob dormitory.
As of 6.30 p.m. today, the 200 rioting victims have been escorted to hospitals. Around 80 people were taken to Tarakan Hospital, 70 are under the care of Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital and some 50 others are in Budi Kemuliaan hospital. Their injuries were mostly caused by the throwing of stones and tear gas.
