Jokowi: Second Phase of MRT to be Ready by 2024

President Jokowi has officially launched the Jakarta MRT Phase 1 on Sunday 24th March 2019. On the same day, the President also instigated the construction of the MRT Phase 2, which he expects to be completed by 2024. The second phase is set to connect the Bundaran HI (Hotel Indonesia roundabout) to Kota (Jakarta Old Town).

“If everything goes well and in accordance with our timeline, we expect the Bundaran HI-Kota MRT to be fully functional in 2024,” President Director of MRT Jakarta, William Sabandar, said during the official opening ceremony of the MRT Phase 1.

Indonesia’s Minister of Transport, Budi Karya Sumadi, added that despite being launched yesterday, construction for Phase 2 of the MRT will only start by the end of this month or early next month. The second phase will start from the Sarinah Station, next to the Bundaran HI Station. There will be seven new stations in Phase 2, namely Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok and finally Kota or Jakarta Old Town.
