The Director-General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has stated that foreign nationals overstaying in Indonesia will be charged Rp 1 million per day.

Agung Sampurno, Head of Public Relations and Immigration Data at the Ministry, said that the new rule will start from 3rd May 2019, based on government regulation no. 28 year 2019 regarding types and tariff of non-tax income revenue (PNPB) at the Kemenkumham.

“We have purposely increased the overstay fees from Rp 300,000 per day to one million rupiah per day, in order to reduce the number of overstays,” Agung confirmed.

He added that lot of foreigners take the rule for granted, and even abuse the system due to the low fees. The introduction of the fees is aimed to be a genuine deterrent at those who may plan to overstay their visa.
