Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has launched an electric scooter service called GrabWheels in Terminal 3 during the Eid holidays.
CEO of Angkasa Pura II, Muhammad Awaluddin, has confirmed that GrabWheels is set to support the Eid 2019 home-coming period at the Airport.
It aims to ease the mobility of passengers commuting short distances to reach different gates in the terminal. The transportation also emphasises Terminal 3’s function as the first digital airport in Indonesia.
“App-based electric scooters have become a lifestyle and are trending in big cities in America, Europe, and Singapore,” he added.
Terminal 3 is by far the biggest airline passenger terminal in Indonesia, with an area of 422,000 square metres. Therefore, GrabWheels is expected to increase the efficiency of passengers travelling in the terminal.
Terminal 3 of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport will provide 8 square metre parking lots for 10 units of GrabWheels. Travellers can catch GrabWheels in the parking area and return it to another parking spot. The maximum speed of the electric scooter is 10 km per hour. Currently, 20 units are available at the domestic arrival gates.
GrabWheels is also expected to serve both international and domestic flights in Terminal 3 later this month. The electric scooter will be free of charge until 19th June. After the trial period stops, passengers will be charged Rp 5000 per 30 mins. Payment could also be settled via the Grab application with a QR Code.
