The TransJakarta Jakarta Explorer tourist bus routes proved a success over the holiday break with visitors flocking to the Istiqlal Mosque bus stop to take in the city’s sights.
The History of Jakarta and New Jakarta routes, both of which leave from the stop, operate Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12.00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The service has four other routes — the Jakarta Skyscrapers route, Arts and Culinary, Open Spaces Jakarta and a new route servicing the Mbah Priok Tomb in North Jakarta — which operates to their own schedule.
The Jakarta tourist bus, better known as ‘Mpok Siti,’ is a free public facility provided by the city government. The service launched in 2014 and originally had a tour guide on board, which has since been replaced with an automated audio speaker as well as an attendant who can provide secondary information.
First-time riders will want to choose the best possible seat for sight-seeing. Stops can be found at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, Pecenongan, National Museum, New Market, Istiqlal Mosque, National Monument (Monas), Town Hall and Sarinah.
