Jakarta: MRT Trial Run Scheduled for December

The development of Jakarta’s MRT is on track and it is set to enter a trial run in December before becoming fully operational in March 2019, MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar has said.

Phase one of the construction, spanning from Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, has reached 93.5 percent completion.

William said the company expected to finish the railway project in June and put the train on the main line in July.

“We will try to operate the train in August. In late December, we will enter a trial run,” William said on Tuesday.

He added that the railway signaling system would be sent from Japan to Indonesia in August.

Previously, two MRT trains, which consist of 12 cars, arrived in Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta in early April.

Another 14 trains are expected to arrive at the port in November.

Meanwhile, MRT Jakarta has yet to determine the fare for the service. Previously, William said the fare would be around Rp 17,000 (US$ 1.20) without a subsidy.

To increase the company’s non-ticket revenue, the company is set to auction station names.

“We will auction the names of the stations. The station will be named after the winner,” William said.
