Four Arrested For Placing Fake GoJek Orders

Four people have been arrested by the Jakarta Police for allegedly placing fake orders on ride-hailing app GoJek over the last two months.

All the suspects, identified as 30 year old RP, 20 year old CA, 24 year old RW, and 21 year old KA, were registered GoJek drivers, according to Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono. They were arrested at the Taman Duta Mas shopping avenue in Jelambar, West Jakarta, on February 1.

Argo told reporters at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Wednesday that the men were arrested while committing the crime. He said that each suspect had registered up to 30 fake accounts, from which they can make Rp10 million per person per day.

The suspects manipulated the GoJek system to make the fake orders. “In the GoJek application, it looks like they were serving passengers while in fact they weren’t,” Argo explained.

During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted they have been committing the crime since December last year.

Police are currently searching for another person who played a role as someone who made the fake orders. They refused to reveal a name as it was an ongoing investigation.

The suspects will be charged under the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.
