Sanur to host International Triathlon on October 15

The tenth annual Herbalife Bali International Triathlon will be held on October 15 with a new course that will expose participants to Balinese culture, with the race starting and finishing in the picturesque village of Sanur.

This year’s race combines swimming, cycling and running, with the theme “Triathlon for the Soul.” The race will start just after sunrise with a swim in the waters of Sanur’s Mertasari Beach, followed by a bike race down the Ngurah Rai Bypass in Sanur to the IB Mantra Bypass in Gianyar, before finishing with a road race through the streets of Sanur.

The new course will not only improve safety for attendants, but it will also allow for full road closures while adding a distinct Balinese cultural experience according to Indonesia Tourism Ministry’s travel website indonesia.travel.

2,000 triathletes from 20 countries will participate in the triathlon, including Indonesian triathlon champion Jauhari Johan who represented Indonesia at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur. The Bali International Triathlon is one of Indonesia’s most popular races and has won awards including, “Best Destination Triathlon,” and “Best Overall Short Course Triathlon in Asia.”

Sanur, where this year’s triathlon will take place, is renowned for its spectacular sunrise, long stretches of beautiful white sand beaches, market stalls and relaxed beach cafes. As in previous years, the race will have different distance and age group categories.
